Childersburg, Alabama is said to be the Oldest Occupied
City in America. A village of the Coosa Indians in 1540 was located on the
banks of the Coosa River.
Located nearby is Desoto
Caverns, the first recorded cave in the United States. (1796)
Indian Dance Festivals are held here during the year. The Kymulga
Grist Mill is also near the caverns.
Childersburg is located in Talladega County along the banks
of the Coosa River and appx. 35 miles southeast of Birmingham on Highway
280. The area is growing but
you can stroll through history.
